SOLID STATE LOGIC VHD Pre per serie 500

Preamplifier with VHD Solid State Logic technology, a world leader in the production of creative tools for audio professionals, has presented the new VHD Pre module for the 500 series format for the widespread and practical modular rack systems. The product finally brings the versatile preamplifier technology present on the Duality console, the top of the range SSL line present in the largest studios in the world, within the reach of studios of all sizes.

The VHD Pre is a very versatile device for the recording and processing phases: this module guarantees the ultra-clean sounds of SSL SuperAnalogue™ preamplifiers, but it also has the VHD - Variable Harmonic Drive mode, i.e. the system patented by SSL that, through a 100% analog signal path, is able to generate rich harmonic distortions. By increasing the input gain, the VHD circuit progressively introduces a 2nd or 3rd degree harmonic distortion or a combination of the two. At lower gain levels, VHD adds a slight harmonic distortion that heats the source in an extremely 'soft' way, imitating the behavior of a classic tube or transistor circuit. As the gain increases to extreme values, the distortion becomes greater, up to more marked effects for grunge sounds typical of transistors. The VHD Pre offers the user the maximum versatility of a studio-quality preamplifier: whether you are looking for the typical ultra-clean sound of traditional SSL consoles, or a subtle tube or transistor distortion, until you gradually arrive at total distortion effects, VHD will change normal expectations with respect to what a preamplifier is able to do.

The VHD section of the VHD Pre module has three rotary controls:

- Drive selects the type of harmonic distortion, varying between 2nd and 3rd harmonics and mixing between the two
- Gain controls the input gain with a range between +20 and +75dB
- Trim adjusts the output level (-20/+20dB) for a perfect level match with other devices, because by its nature the VHD circuit can significantly amplify the signal.
The VHD Pre module has other features for studio use: an LED for signal presence, a High Pass Filter (HPF) adjustable between 15Hz and 500Hz, Hi-Z selector for perfect impedance matching with each microphone, +48V phantom power, PAD to allow it to be used even with line signals and a phase inversion switch Main
