The unit has a ¼” input for picking up the instrument. Unlike classic direct boxes with an input impedance of 1meg ohms, SB-4 has a high impedance of 5meg ohms that blunt those annoying peaks that give piezo a bad reputation. The higher impedance expands the frequency response, ensuring a more natural and pleasant sound. The active circuit performs the high-to-low impedance conversion and balances the signal, allowing the use of cables up to 100 meters without loss, with excellent linearity and low distortion

SB-4 is equipped with a high-pass filter and a switch for reversing the polarity by 180°, to eliminate feedback on stage. The high pass filter eliminates excessive bottom-end and reduces resonance that can cause annoying vibrations at the top of the instrument. The 180° polarity reversal helps to reduce acoustic hot-spots on stage, changing the phase relationship between the PA system and the ambient acoustics, which at certain frequencies combine to create peaks. By inverting the polarity, the acoustic peak is eliminated without resorting to a heavy equalization that, in general, compromises the natural tone of the instrument. The connections include an AUX output for an on-stage amplifier plus a standard XLR output to power the PA. The 48V power supply is taken from the console, thus eliminating the need for batteries or external power supplies. Plug in, turn on the Phantom power and you're ready
