Analog Meets Digital on the Dance Floor
The influence of the TR-909 drum machine is still alive almost forty years after its launch. Today, the 909 is available as a software plug-in, offering all the power that moves the speaker cones of the original, with new features that extend its sonic capabilities and make programming faster
and smoother.Analog/Digital Hybrid, Even Before It Existed In 1983, Roland followed up the hugely
influential TR-808 with the TR-909 model. Around the same time, digital sampling of acoustic drums was taking hold, but the sounds of the available devices didn't offer much adjustment options. And to be honest, they still couldn't sound like real drums. For the 909, Roland designers chose a hybrid approach that employed modifiable and adjustable analog circuits for the bass, snare, clap and tom, reserving digital sampling for cymbals
.Rivalry between Sisters
Only about 10,000 TR-909s were produced, but the impact of this instrument on dance floors around the world continues to this day. Much like the TR-808 dominant in rap and hip-hop genres, TR-909 has left an indelible mark on electronic music styles such as techno, house, acid and industrial. It's the sound you hear in your head when you think of dance music capable of making the floor shake
.Use Your TR-909
In addition to faithfully recreating the analog circuitry of the TR-909, our software version uses the original sample ROM and the models of the nascent digital technology present in vintage hardware. This attention to detail has produced a perfectly authentic TR-909, with all the sound characteristics that make it one of the perennial favorites of electronic and dance producers around the world.
- Possibility to saturate the 909's internal circuits to adapt it to different styles and genres The classic 909 step sequencer expands, displaying lines for
- each sound, so that you can program faster and more fluidly. Each pattern has eight variations, for
- sequences in continuous evolution, always interesting Drag & drop of audio or MIDI patterns directly from the 909 in a Flam project,
- sub- Adjustable steps and soft hits create detailed fills and “ratcheted” sequences
our TR-8S Rhythm Performer and TR-09 Roland Boutique hardware
Transfer TR-8S patterns directly into the TR-909 plug-in or create rhythms on the fly and send them to the hardware, or use TR-8S or TR-09 for convenient direct control of the plug-in
