PRS HX 100 Head

HX 100 is the HX series PRS amplifier designed for guitarists looking for the iconic sound of Jimi Hendrix. The amplifier, with the “Hendrix” PRS circuit inside, delivers 100 Watts of power managed by EL34 valves and has two separate channels with Gain, Bass, Middle, Treble, Presence, Mid Gain, Bright 1 and 2 controls.

PRS HX 100 captures the flexibility, power and balance of the
British-inspired tone of the late 1960s.
A continuation of PRS's popular
HXDA amplifiers, the PRS HX amplifiers feature a
refined control layout and a recently documented 'Authentic Hendrix' circuit.
This circuit is strongly inspired by one of
Hendrix's personal amplifiers, presumably used at Woodstock, that Paul Reed
Smith and PRS amplifier designer Doug Sewell were able to study in 2018. Designed to push the high-end with brilliance, without being harsh, PRS HX gives the guitarist a unique dynamism, going from high gain sounds to sweet and soft tones.

How is it powered?

PRS HX 100 is powered by four EL34EH power tubes, the best
preamp tubes available, and has a custom-designed Straight Edge output transformer. The power supply and filament design make HX 100
incredibly quiet with little or no 'buzz or hissing'.

How does PRS HX 100 adapt such a vintage sound to the future?

PRS HX 100 has 3-band Tone-Stack TMB controls, 3-way Bright switch,
High Mid Gain and Presence switch, features that mirror
the historic amplifier and offer musicians greater flexibility and tone control. PRS HX 100 is also designed with internally scaffled channels and individual volume
controls.
This eliminates the need for a
connecting cable (historically used outside the amplifier) and allows
musicians to more easily adjust distortion level and timbre by mixing the
individual volume controls of the Lead and Bass channels, giving the amplifier a more modern flexibility.
Made at the PRS Guitars factory in Stevensville, Maryland, USA, the
PRS HX 100 amplifiers are an integral reproduction of the tone, a
celebration of history and a monument to modern technology. For the
HX amplifier series, PRS designed the 2x12 and 4x12 cabinets.
Featuring
modified Celestion G12H-75 Creamback speakers, these cabinets provide drive and energy to complete the line up.

Tips for using

This is a vintage amplifier at stock volume. PRS recommends
using a volume attenuator with these amplifiers.
The market offers
several good choices and PRS recommends Koch Loadbox LB120 II available in
16 and 8 ohm versions: make sure that the resistance matches the cabinet used.
