Like the other models in the series, the new ZED also incorporate a USB connection, with two-track delivery and return, for payback, recording and effects directly from a computer. The 10 mono channels use the acclaimed Allen&Heath dual-stage 'DuoPre' preamplifier, three-band MusiQ EQ, with semiparametric average, and 100mm faders. In a compact rack-mountable format. The stereo inputs have two-band EQ and inputs for an extra source, and there are 4 aux sends accessible from both mono and stereo channels

ZED-16FX also offers an effects processor with Tap tempo delay, 24 bit/48kHz conversion, and a set of 16 effects derived directly from Allen&heath iLive systems.

“ZED-18 and ZED-16FX are the perfect format for many applications. In a rack-mountable frame we inserted 10 mono channels and kept all the stereos (in ZED-18 there are 7 stereo inputs including USB). The configuration of outputs and monitors is the same as that of ZED 14 and 12FX, which has proved to be very useful and flexible both in live mixing and in the studio, and they are designed and built to last for years. The Cakewalk's SONAR X1 LE software package is supplied with ZED-18 and ZED-16FX, and allows the user different functions, in live mixing, live recording, studio recording or studio mixing. The combination of ZED and SONAR allows you to record a stereo mix, or record individual tracks to make a track, or insert a SONAR plug-in effect into the mix

ZED Mixers are made to professional standards, with all potentiometers attached to the front panel for maximum robustness, and high quality components, such as XLR and Neutrik Jack connectors.
