In the early 1970s, Martin Guitar was commissioned to develop a black D-35 for Star Johnny Cash. Although Martin had never considered such a request before that moment, a completely black D-35 Custom was made for the 'Man in Black'. Cash played his personalized D-35 onstage for the next 20 years. In 2006, Martin presented a commemorative edition of the D-35 Johnny Cash. In 2019, here is the DX Johnny Cash as a reference to the story between Cash and Martin Guitar. Designed in collaboration with John Carter Cash and the Cash Foundation team, the guitar features the classic Dreadnought shape built with Black HPL laminate Top, Bands and Bottom. Like the previous commemorative edition, this instrument includes a keyboard inlaid with stars and the 'CASH' logo. Johnny Cash's signature appears on the rosette and on the label. This model is equipped with Fishman® MX electronics and a soft concert case embroidered with the “CASH” logo and is equipped with Martin Authentic Acoustic Lifespan strings. The DX Johnny Cash LEFT is the left-handed version of the DX Johnny Cash series and has been designed to be an accessible guitar playable by anyone seeking to honor the legacy of a musical legend
